Winter Time Girlfriends’ Significant Other Getaway

So you ate yourself into oblivion over Thanksgiving, almost maxed out your credit cards during Black Friday and shopping for Christmas gifts for that hard to please great aunt and now you are wondering what to do until spring?  Now is the time to reconnect AND make memories.  According to an article by Melissa Locker in “Southern Living Magazine” science claims that getting away with your friends is good for mental health.  She doesn’t say where she found this information, so I poked around on the internet  and found a lot of research that supports this statement.  Even family relationships are helped by vacations.  Active vacations where you are involved in new activities and adventures is better than just lying around on a beach or on a cruise.

So gather your besties, (and isn’t your husband or significant other your bestie?) your sisters, cousins, or moms and head to the Brandywine Valley, located just outside Philadelphia.  You can also reconnect just with yourself and forget for a while about being a mom yourself, or a boss, or employee.  Enjoy a game of pool, read one of the books in our large library or bring your own, and enjoy a glass of complimentary port or sherry.  Of course, each morning will start with one of Hamanassett’s great breakfasts.  And if you opt for a night of chick flicks or whatever)  we’ll provide the pizza,  popcorn and soft drinks if you spend two nights with us.  This is good any time during January, February, March and April except for holiday weekends.

We have so many things to do during the winter months but you don’t need to be busy every minute of the day.  Plan one or two events while you are here and the rest of the time  you can just chill out at Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast with pizza, a bottle of wine and binge watch your favorite show.  We offer televisions with DVD players in every room and a library of over 100 movies from which to choose.  Our two king suites are large enough for your group to congregate to watch a movie.  We also have lots of board games if that is more your style.  Check out below some of the options available to you in and around our bed and breakfast.

How about a special cooking class just for you and your friends?  We’ll tailor the class to meet the menu and skills level you request as well as the date you request.  The price will depend on the menu you choose (in addition to your room selection) so give us a call and let us help you design a private culinary experience.  We do need a minimum of 6 people to put together a class.

If you enjoy theater, the Hedgerow Theatre in Media is presenting The Haunting:  A Ghost Story which is based on original stories by Charles Dickens.  The play runs from February 5 – March 1, 2020.

Now is the time to release your inner artist while having fun with friends.  A great way to unwind with your friends is with your favorite beverage while you create a painting.  At Pinots Pallette  In Exton you’ll receive everything you need right down to glasses for your beverage and an apron to keep your clothes clean for your painting experience.  The provide professional artists who act as your host in guiding you through the process.  You can check their calendar for Open Studio dates or plan a private class if you have eight or more.  Even if you join an open session, they will do their best to make sure you all are seated together.    For more information, click on the link above or call 484-254-6810.

How about a wine inspired getaway?  Many of our wineries are closed during the winter except weekends so you should definitely plan this ahead.  Two of our favorite wineries are Vala in Avondale and Penns Woods in Chadds Ford.  You can also check out the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail which has at least 6 other wineries included.  And if you want to really splurge, why not hire one of the limo companies that will map out a wine tasting day just for you.  If beer is more your style, we have a great brew scene in the area.  Learn more.

The ultimate in a vacation that will have you saying ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh is almost right around the corner from Hamanassett Bed and Breakfast.  Make a day of a spa treatment at Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon.  You can experience everything from detoxifying or nourishing therapies,  body scrubs,  massages, facials, and manicures and pedicures.    And if you want to surprise friends when you return home, end your visit with a spray tan and let them think you jetted away to the Bahamas for the weekend!

Want to slip in a little culture on your getaway?  We’ve got you covered with a multitude of historic houses such as Winterthur, Nemours, Hagley and Longwood Gardens.  Museums are in abundance also and include the Brandywine River Museum,  the Delaware Museum of Contemporary Art, and, of course, the Barnes Museum and Philadelphia Museum of Art.     In need of a little shopping?  Forget the big malls (although we have plenty) and head into the charming towns of Media, West Chester, or Kennett Square where you will find lots of boutique shops as well as charming restaurants.  If you love books as much as I do, don’t miss Baldwin’s Book Barn, a historic stone barn on the outskirts of  West Chester.  The barn was built in 1822 and you’ll find five floors of treasures.  There are over 300,000 selections of used books, rare books, out of print books,  antiquarian books, maps and prints.   You’ll love browsing inside the stone walls or sitting in front of the fire to warm up while you browse through your newest find.

There may be a blanket of snow on the ground and bare trees but you can still get your fill of flowers this winter.  At Longwood Gardens there is the annual Orchid Extravaganza which is running from January 18 until March 22, 2020 and The Philadelphia Flower Show which will be February 29 – March 8, 2020.  The good news is Hamanassett is 24 miles southwest of Philadelphia and 10 miles north of Longwood which makes us the perfect place to stay is plan on visiting both attractions.

Pack your bags, choose your favorite room at Hamanassett and let your Brandywine Valley Getaway begin!  We’ll provide the chick flicks, pizza, popcorn, drinks,  amazing breakfasts, afternoon cookies, sherry and port.  Be sure to tell us you want the pizza and popcorn for your stay.
