Old Fashioned Colonial Christmas at Colonial Plantation in Pennsylvania

Christmas at the Colonial Plantation in Media, Pennsylvania

December 5, 2016 from 11 AM – 4 PM

Longing for an old fashion Christmas this year.  On December 5, 2016 be sure to visit the Colonial Plantation in Media, Pennsylvania.  You will definitely get the Christmas spirit when you see volunteers and farm animals dressed for the holidays. For children (and children at heart) Father Christmas will visit and you will have the opportunity to learn how to make Christmas tree ornaments, fabric dolls, and other Colonial Christmas decorations and toys.  Visit the stable barn to see animals and hear Christmas stories.

Tour the Colonial  farmhouse decked out for the holidays using outdoor greenery and  materials mainly found in nature.  At 1 and 3:15 enjoy a special wassailing to the orchard.  I had to look this up because I wasn’t sure what wassailing was.  There are two types;  the first is going house to house and singing in exchange for gifts.  Today people still go caroling.  The orchard wassailing is far more interesting.  This tradition goes back to ancient times, especially in England’s cider producing areas,  when people visited the orchard and recited incantations and sang to the trees in hopes of a good harvest the following year.

Wearing a white gown topped by a red velvet cape trimmed in gold white, Father Christmas stands on the porch of the farm house.
