This is the time of year to really get your fix of trains.  Every year the Brandywine River Museum, six miles from Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast, devotes an entire room to their O-gauge railroad display.  It includes five rains running simultaneously on over 2000 feet of track and is one of the largest model train displays in the country.  To learn more about the railroad and the museum click here.

Or you can drive down to Wilmington, De., 30 minutes from us, and ride the real thing.,  The Wilmington and Western Railroad features train rides throughout the year.  In December they offer a 45-minute evening ride aboard a heated 1929 Pennsylvania Railroad “Doodlebug” railcar (which is covered with thousands of holiday lights). Many of  the trackside neighbors decorate their homes and yards for you to enjoy.

And finally, while not as large and you can’t sit on it, you can enjoy Glenn’s model train as it makes its way around the base of one of our Christmas trees.  Whatever you do, you’ll enjoy the holidays in the Brandywine Valley.
