July 4 and Beyond in the Brandywine Valley

There is so much to do in the next few weeks in the Brandywine Valley.   Of course, one of the biggest and most popular is the fireworks and fountains show at Longwood Gardens.  Did you know Longwood was recently voted as one of the top 10 gardens in the world?  It actually came in at number 2.  And Chanticleer Gardens, just 20 minutes northeast of us, was voted number 10.  Anyhow on July 3 you can enjoy the music of John Philip Sousa, Irving Berlin, and Richard Rogers.

Can’t make it next week?  Well, look who is on the schedule for future shows.  The Rocket Man himself,  Sir Elton John, will be performing August 17.  Imagine fireworks, fountains dancing to Philadelphia Freedom and Candle in the Wind.    June 20 enjoy the music of  Russian composer, Shastokovich.

In Glen Mills, just two miles away is the Newlin Grist Mill.  They have an active 18th century grist mill and miller house, a log cabin, and an active forge.  There is also hiking and fishing.  Remember Hamanassett is a dog friendly bed and breakfast and this is a great place to walk your dog.  www.newlingristmill.org

Eight wineries make up the Brandywine Valley Wine Trail.  All are within 30 minutes of each other and major attractions such as Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, Brandywine River Museum, Hagley, and Nemours.  For $20.00 per person you can visit all 8 and try their wines.    Most of them will be hosting special events all summer.  All will have their July 4 BBQ the weekend of July 6 and 7.  Penns Woods is offering yoga in the vineyard, sangria from June 29 through September 9, fire works on July 4,  and  free lawn concerts throughout the summer.    Other wineries such as Paradox and Kreutz Creek are also offering outdoor concerts.     .

Just a reminder for you railroad buffs, we are only 45 minutes from Strasburg which has a toy train museum as well as the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.  There you can actually climb aboard a couple of old engines and walk through period cars.

So what are you waiting for?  Pack your bag,  call Hamanassett Bed & Breakfast at 610-459-3000 or go to our web site www.hamanassett.com and make your reservation.  We’ll have the fresh chocolate chip cookies waiting.
